Johan Bridger, Percussion

Works by Schwanter, Broström, Másson

“For his intense personal expression, brilliant technical mastery and overpowering stage presence”. Thus read the judges citation for Johan Bridger when he picked up the Soloist’s Prize on 9 May 2004.

The CD “Johan Bridger percussion” with works by: Joseph Schwantner, Tobias Broström, Áskell Másson, David Maslanka and Staffan Storm, was one part of the Soloist Prize, which otherwise consisted of 100,000 Swedish kronor, engagements with orchestras and a tour for Concerts Sweden.

Johan Bridger, who was born in 1976, has been a soloist with many Swedish orchestras. He has made solo appearances in the USA and a number of European countries as well as on Swedish radio and TV. Since 1996 he has played together with Patrick Raab in the percussion duo MalleusIncus. He also plays in Ensemble Ars Nova and the Malmö Percussion Edition. He has participated as an orchestral musician in a number of prominent Swedish orchestras and from now on he teaches at the Music Conservatory in Copenhagen.

Comments on Johan Bridger: “Johan Bridger is definitely one of Sweden’s best percussionists. I personally have never heard better playing on the marimba.” Daniel Kåse – percussionist in the Royal Philharmonic

“Johan Bridger is one of the foremost and most exciting percussionists of his generation”, Anders Loguin – professor at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.
