Eric Ericson Chamber Choir

Lidholm, Jennefelt, Sandström and others

The professor and choir conductor Eric Ericson was awarded the music prize of the Nordic Council in 1995. On this CD the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir is singing Nordic choir music. Swedish choir music and diffusion of this music is identical with Eric Ericson.

It all began in the 1940s with Ericson’s ground breaking “chamber choir sound”. The Chamber choir was founded in 1945. In the 1950s Ericson held all important positions on the Swedish choir scene, he was cantor in the Church of St. James in Stockholm, and he was responsible for the Choir of the Swedish broadcasting corporation and the Chamber Choir. He was also choir master on at the musical academy and leader of the male choir Ophei Drängar.

In the 1960 the spirit of discovery reigned, inspired by such composers as Hindemith, Ligeti, Messiaen and others. The choirs took the new music to heart and Swedish composers as Ingvar Lidholm, Erik Bergman, and Sven-Erik Bäck broke through.

Ericson has worked with the great conductors: James Levine, Riccardo Muti, and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. The united Radio Choir and Chamber choir made a huge success in cities like Berlin. Internationally The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir belongs to the crème de la crème among mixed choirs. The choir has received numerous international awards, the Edison award among others.
