Håkan Hagegård

Opera Arias & Swedish Ballads and Songs

On this “classical” CD, the famous Swedish baritone Håkan Hagegård presents a collection of popular operatic arias and Swedish romantic ballads.

The Royal Orchestra Stockholm accompanies operatic arias by Verdi, Gounod, Wagner, Mozart and Leoncavalo, led by conductor Carlo Felice Cillario. The Norwegian  conductor Kjell Ingebretsen leads the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in ballads composed by August Söderman, Tor Aulin, Andréas Hallén, Hugo Alfvén and Wilhelm Stenhammar.

Håkan Hagegård was born in 1945 in Karlstad. After studies in his home town he came, in 1967 to the State College of Music in Stockholm. He later studied art song with Erik Werba and Gerald Moore in Salzburg and Stockholm. He received his opera training from Tito Gobbi in Italy. Hagegård made his début in 1968 as Papageno at the Stockholm Opera. He made his great world break-through in the role of Papageno in Ingmar Bergman’s TV-version of Mozart’s”The Magic Flute”. Håkan Hagegård has performed on most of the opera stages around the world, and he is also an outstanding singer of art songs.
