Doris Soffel

Sings Bel Canto

Doris Soffel – one of the greatest sopranos of our time – won the hearts of the Swedes many years ago when she came to Sweden from her native Germany. On this CD she sings arias from Lucrezia Borgia and Norma.

Over the years she has become even more loved thanks to her many solo recitals in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö, in addition to her numerous appearances on radio and TV.

In Germany Doris Soffel is well known as a leading interpreter of contemporary music. Other Europeans see her perhaps as a “Hosenrollen artist” thanks in part to her huge international successes as Octavian in Strauss´Der Rosenkavalier, Sesto in Mozart´s Titus or Orlovksy in Johan Strauss “Die Fledermaus”. She also has an international reputation as a “Mahler Queen” — after performing his song cycles all over the world, Mahler has become somewhat of a  ”composer in residence” for her.
