Dag Wirén

On Saturday 15 October 2005 the composer Dag Wirén´s (1905 – 1986) 100th anniversary was celebrated with a chamber-music concert, the presentation of a new book, Dag Wirén – A Guidebook (by Martin Tegen), and a new CD from Caprice Records compiled by musicologist Carl-Gunnar Åhlén, entitled Vintage Wirén.

The Caprice CD contains historical recordings presenting Dag Wirén as a composer and conductor. A number of Wirén´s then colleagues participate, such as the conductors Tor Mann, Sixten Eckerberg and Sixten Ehrling. We listen to, among others, Stig Ribbing piano, Sven Karpe violin, Maurice Maréchal cello, and Dag Wirén himself at the piano and as conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Among the recordings we find the Serenade for String Orchestra Op. 11, of which there exist a great number of recordings, both in Sweden and internationally.

A Swedish classic!
