Tuomo Haapala has attracted attention on many different accounts: he is a bass player, composer, instrument inventor and theatre & film director. He first broke waves as member of the “improvisation group” Iskra, which was active for more than 20 years, starting at the beginning of the 1970’s.
Tuomo Haapala has taken part in many recordings, but the album “Movements in Rapid Waters” under the Caprice Records label, was his first solo release.

“Movements in Rapid Waters” relates to the performance “Midnight Music on the Water” project during the 1992 Stockholm International Water festival, when tens of thousands of spectators experienced something quite out of the ordinary.

Another of Tuomo Haapalas projects was a concert in 1995 in the Dannemora Mine, with 330 performers, featuring the most remarkable instruments: keyed fiddles, drills, motorbikes, hammers, choirs, a big band – and a white flying elk!
