In the Caprice Composers Series we present Torsten Nilsson’s Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 and the Suite for Grand Piano. During the 1970s Torsten Nilsson composed two very different and yet kindred piano concertos, one for piano and strings and the other for piano, wind instruments and percussion.

The première performances of both were given by Hans Pålsson, whose spiritual affinity to Nilsson’s expressive style of composition is also apparent from these recordings, made in conjunction with notable concert performances.

Torsten Nilsson’s Suite for Grand Piano, written in 1988, is dedicated to Hans Pålsson, who gave its first performance. This piano suite is closely connected with the piano concerto “On the Threshold” and if anything forms a postscript to it. Hans Pålsson is also the pianist on this recording, made in 1990.
