Karl-Birger Blomdahl

Chamber Music & In The Hall of Mirrors

The Caprice Records composer series presents Karl-Birger Blomdahl, one of the protagonsists of the Swedish music scene in the 1950s and 60s.

The chamber music works presented on this CD are the Dance suites No 1 and 2 and the trio for clarinet, cello and piano. The recordings were made in the middle of the 1980-ies by some of Sweden’s foremost instrumentalists, Tobias Carron, Kjell-Inge Stevenson, Bernt Lysell et al.

In the hall of mirrors is presented in a unique mono recording from 1966 by the legendary sound engineer Stig Carlsson. In the hall…is an oratorio for reciter, soprano, tenor and bass. The soloists are: Margareta Hallin, Barbro Ericson, Sven-Erik Vikström, Anders Näslund and Bengt Rundgren. Sixten Ehrling conducts.

In the hall of mirrors is based on nine sonnets by Erik Lindegren from his collection of poems The Man without a Way, an anguished pictorial suite close to both death and life and inspired by the madness of the Second World War.
