Swedish Highlights
Various Artists
This recording presents beloved Swedish classics. The subtitle is Swedish Celebration, and the common denominator of the compositions is that they may be regarded as typically “Swedish” and, as a result, are often played on various ceremonial and national occasions.
The National Anthem, The Song to the King, “Sweden” by Stenhammar, and the Swedish Flag by Alfvén, they all have the solemn character of national hymns, while the remaining compositions contains everything from melancholy to joyful feasting. The following composers are represented: Hugo Alfvén, Wilhelm Stenhammar, Dag Wirén, Otto Lindblad, August Söderman and Lars-Erik Larsson. The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra is playing directed by Stig Westerberg, and the Radio choir participates in four of the compositions.
