The Sundsvall Wind Quintet (founded 1993) consists of Maria Garlöv Thorsell (flute), Eva Lauenstein (oboe), Inge Magnusson (clarinet), Maria Granberg (French horn), and Sixten Lindström (basoon).

The pianist Mona Sandström Kontra made her debut at the age of 12 with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, and has since then been active as a soloist and chamber musician both in Sweden and abroad. She graduated from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki in 1987 with highest honors.

We hear the Sextet for piano and winds by Francis Poulenc. Poulenc has a strong position in Swedish musical life; Eric Ericson, among others, has often programmed his music.

Jean Francaix is presented with two works: the Sextet for piano and winds, and the Quintet for winds. Francaix was a kind of provocateur: his music is happy and light, which irritated several of his more “serious” contemporaries. His breakthrough came when he was in his twenties with the Concertino jeunesse for piano and orchestra. Subsequently he wrote a great deal of chamber music.
