Sixten Ehrling Conducts the Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra
Wagner, Mahler & Weinberger
Sixten Ehrling made numerous gramophone recordings and was a guest conductor of the top symphony orchestras in Europe, the USA, Japan, Australia and other parts of the world. He was appointed chief conductor at the Royal Opera in 1976.
The Orchestra of the Royal Opera is one of the oldest still active orchestras in the world, in 2001 it celebrated its 475th anniversary.
Ingrid Tobiasson was appointed Court Singer in the year 2000. She has appeared at the Folk Opera, the Drottningholm Palace Theater, the Norrland Opera and the Malmö Music Theater. She made her debut at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. She has sung a large number of roles over the years, notably the title role in Carmen.
The five Wesendonk songs are Richard Wagner´s innovative contribution to the art of songs with orchestral accompaniment.
The Kindertotenlieder, written 1901-04, represents a zenith of creativity in Gustav Mahler´s song composition.
Finally, in Weinberger´s orchestral work Under the Spreading Chestnut Tree the theme is a children´s world without sorrow. The simple folk melody has a certain resemblance to the children´s song The Eensy, Weensy Spider. The work is presented here for the first time on CD.
