Miklós Maros

Oolit

Hungarian-born Miklós Maros (1943) belongs to an acclaimed and artistically weighty generation of Swedish composers, all students of Ingvar Lindholm. Maros formed his own chamber ensemble, the Maros Ensemble. He has written orchestral works that have attracted some attention (mostly solo concertos and symphonies), also an opera for the radio, The Great Gravel Harp set to a tale by Strindberg, as well as various kinds of chamber music where he has sometimes utilized electronic material. Contemporary music is perhaps what Maros is most fond of.

This cd comprises six compositions by Miklós Maros. Four of these works have been issued previously on a Caprice LP: Oolit (1978-79), Descort (1974-75), Dimensions< (1984-85) and Circulations (1982-83).

Concerto Grosso for saxophone quartet and orchestra was composed for the Raschér Quartet in 1988. this is the first time we hear this work on record. The trombone concerto was composed in 1983 for trombonist Christian Lindberg and the Gävleborg Symphony Orchestra.
