Matti Hirvonen, Piano

Robert Schumann

Matti Hirvonen interprets Robert Schumann, Variations sur le nom Abegg, Papillons and Davidsbündlertänze,häfte 1 och 2.

When Robert Schumann finally decided he was going to write music for the piano he did so full time. This enabled him to compose the most beautiful music for the instrument without thinking of anything else than that it would let him express the feelings he had inside. It is a bit strange that these feelings are expressed in a virtuoso way, since he could hardly play the music himself – his right middle finger was useless.

Matti Hirvonen’s fingers are in full working order though. He is among the select few Swedish pianists who can express the hidden power that lies in the notes, thanks to their developed technique and sensitivity. The spiritual collaboration between Robert Schumann and Matti Hirvonen means that three important pieces are given an interpretation doing justice to Schumann’s passionate, romantic and intricate tonal language.
