Garcia Trio
Turina/Linde/Ben-Haim/Shostakovich
The García Trio plays music by Joaquín Turina, BoLinde, Paul Ben-Haim and Dmitri Shostakovich. The trio made its debut in 1979 at the initiative of the first violinist of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Gustavo García.
Bo Linde composed the Sonata a Tre in 1968. Linde was a personal friend of García and both he and Göran Holmstrand, the cellist of the trio have the violin and cello concertos of Linde on their repertoire.
Paul Ben-Haim was born in Munich in 1897. He composed the “Variations over a Hebrew theme” in 1939. In 1933 Ben-Haim immigrated to Palestine where he began penning down traditional melodies which he arranged and performed at public concerts in Palestine, Lebanon and Egypt. When the state of Israel was founded in 1948 Ben-Haim became the most renowned composer of orchestral music in new state.
The second piano trio by Shostakovich is one of his most moving compositions from the wartime. The trio was composed as homage to the friend, critic and musicologist Ivan Sollertinsky, who passed away only 41 years old.
