Doris Soffel
Sings Lieder
Doris Soffel – one of the greatest sopranos of our time – won the hearts Swedes many years ago when she came to Sweden from her native Germany. On this CD she sings lieder by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Mahler and Massenet.
In Germany, Doris Soffel is well known as a leading interpreter of contemporary music. Other Europeans see her perhaps as a “Hosenrollen artist” thanks in part to her huge international successes as Octavian in Strauss´Der Rosenkavalier, Sesto in Mozart´s Titus or Orlovksy in Johan Strauss “Die Fledermaus”. She also has an international reputation as a “Mahler Queen” — after performing his song cycles all over the world, Mahler has become somewhat of a ”composer in residence” for her.
Doris Soffel has sung with many of the world’s most prominent conductors and in most of the great opera houses and concert halls in Europe, the United States and Asia. Her capacity to combine stage charisma, vocal elegance and musicality have made her enormously appreciated as a Lied singer, with Schubert, Schumann and Mahler as her favorites.
