Godowsky

Bengt-Åke Lundin is a well-known pianist, who has made several recordings for the Caprice label. He often gives recitals, tours with orchestras, participates in chamber music performances and has made some radio recordings. He collaborates with Swedish composers, and as a result a number of compositions have been dedicated to him.

Bengt-Åke’s superb piano playing has been heard abroad by audiences in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Spain, Austria, Egypt and China, among other countries. He has worked together with artists such as Malena Ernman, Peter Mattei, Loa Falkman and the Lysell Quartet.

Leopold Godowsky (1870 – 1938) was born near the city of Vilnius (then located in Poland but today the capital of Lithuania). He would eventually become one of the great legends in music history – he was acclaimed above all as one of the most dazzling piano virtuosos of all times. In 1884 he made a first trip to the United States and Canada. He continued to divide his time between North America and Europe. Godowsky composed exclusively for his own instrument, the piano. The works recorded on this CD, Sonata in E minor and Künstlerleben, were written 1910 – 11 and 1905 – 12 respectively.
