Stockholm Symphonic Wind Orchestra
Conductor: Jun’ichi Hirokami
Before the Stockholm Symphonic Wind Orchestra was dissolved in April 1996 they recorded this CD under the guidance of their dynamic principal conductor Jun’ichi Hirokami. The record mirrors the brilliant playing and the varied repertoire of the orchestra, with five out of the six compositions from the 20th century, including one of the many Swedish premières given by the orchestra during its last year of existence.
The earlier piece recorded is Ouvertüre für Haroniemusik, written by 15-year old Felix Mendelsohn in 1824. This is followed by a leap of exactly 100 years to 1924 and the Dane Launy Gröndahl’s Romantic Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra. The second Viennese school is represented by Arnold Schönberg’s Theme and Variations Op. 43 A.
