Sotto il segno del Sole

Kroumata, Omnibus & The Falun Brass Quintet

On this CD three of Sweden’s most renowned chamber music ensembles play music by Olivier Messiaen, Anders Eliasson and Karl-Birger Blomdal. The ensembles are: Omnibus Chamber Brass, Kroumata Percussion Ensemble and The Falun Brass Quintet. Kerstin Andersson plays the piano and the conductor is Anders Loguin.

Messiaen wrote his famed bird trilogy “Oiseaux Exotiques” in the mid 1950s. Here we listen to the second piece. The composition is written for piano, xylophone, two clarinets, a small brass ensemble and percussion. Messiaen uses rare bird songs as the starting- point for his composition: no less than 47 species of birds are included.

Anders Eliasson’s Sotto Il Segno del Sole ( under the sign of the sun) was commissioned by Concert Sweden for the Omnibus Chamber Brass and Kroumata percussion ensemble. The work is one long movement for triple brass ensemble, double bass and five percussionists.

The Chamber Concerto for piano, woodwind and percussion is dedicated to Hans Leygraf, the renowned Swedish pianist, who also performed it on numerous occasions.
