Musica Vitae

Musica Vitae & Håkan Hardenberger

Musica Vitae from Växjö, one of Sweden’s leading chamber orchestras, plays under the direction of the internationally well-known Peter Csaba, Ingvar Lindholm’s Music for Strings, Thomas Jennefelt’s Stockholm in May and Bengt Hambræus’ Labyrith: A Concerto Grosso.

In Jennefelt’s piece, Stockholm in May, we hear the world’s leading trumpet player Håkan Hardenberger as soloist. This is the first CD-edition of this work, which was commissioned by the Swedish Concert Institute and was written in the summer of 2000. The work is a celebration of Stockholm, and one of its starting-points has been the impressions from the scenery of the city with its coves and bays. It is a lengthy song that begins and ends on the same melody. A solo section in the middle, challenges the trumpeter.

Bengt Hambræus’ Labyrinth: A Concerto Grosso, was written for Musica Vitae. It was commissioned by the Swedish Radio P2.

Ingvar Lidholm’s already classical Music for Strings is the first piece on the CD. The interpretation by Musica Vitae, has received much acclaim by the composer.
