Torbjörn Iwan Lundquist (1920 – 2000), Symphony No. 7 Humanity – Dag Hammarskjöld in memoriam. Anita Soldh, soprano, Olle Persson, baritone, Mikaeli Chamber Choir led by Anders Eby, The Swedish Radio Orchestra under the direction of Sixten Ehrling.
Torbjörn Iwan Lundquist was often influenced by world events. He began working on the 7th Symphony, with the subtitle “Humanity – Dag Hammarskjöld in memoriam” on the 1st of March 1986, the day after the assassination of the Prime Minister of Sweden, Olof Palme. According to the composer “The music came over me like a gale and grew like a like a raging protest against violence and terror”. Besides symphonic compositions and chamber music Lundquist has also written prolifically for the cinema.
