Red Mitchell

Red Mitchell (1927 – 1992), an American in Sweden, was since the 50’s regarded as one of the prominent bassists in Jazz. In later years he also appeared as a pianist and singer, mainly doing his own ingenious songs. Some of his earliest songs were premiered on Red’s Caprice album “What I am” from 1979 (CAP 1161).

In this recording we meet Red as a solo performer in his home in Stockholm, Sweden. He appears both as an outstanding bass player in a 20 minute take of a suite of standards, and as a singer and pianist interpreting his own and other people’s songs. Everything has Red’s very personal touch. The material was recorded in Stockholm in Januari 1985.
