Harald Svensson

Vanished into the Blue

The idea behind the Jazz in Sweden award was always to promote younger artists who were not yet established and who were thereby given an opportunity to meet a wider audience. In 1998 the Jazz in Sweden jury nominated pianist Harald Svensson for the award, which meant that they chose a musician who had been around for some time but who had not received the attention he deserved. Harald Svensson was one of the pioneers of “fusion” music in Sweden.

He is a brilliant pianist and keyboard player and also a skilled composer, who has written not only for jazz groups, but also for the Gothenburg Chamber Choir.

Harald Svensson put together a septet for his Jazz in Sweden CD consisting of some of Gothenburg’s leading jazz musicians with the addition of Stockholm-based Fredrik Ljunggren, who plays a variety of woodwind instruments, and trombonist Nils Landgren. The other musicians are: trumpeter Staffan Svensson, bass player Lars Danielsson, Anders Kjellberg on drums and Ebba Westerberg on percussion. The septet’s repertoire consists of Harald Svensson’s own compositions.
