Swedish Jazz History Vol. 2

This second volume features some of the most important recordings of Swedish “hot” jazz – in several cases it’s actually popular songs featuring “hot” jazz solos.

Among the featured orchestras and soloists are: Håkan von Eichenwald, Arne Hülphers, Helge Lindberg, Gösta Jonsson, Charles Redland, Folke “Göken” Andersson, Nisse Lind, Thore Ehrling, Thore Jederby, Zilas Görling, Gösta Törner and American saxophone player Benny Carter. The booklet contains an interview with bass player Thore Jederby, one of the leading musicians of the era, who in a personal way talks about this period in the history of Swedish jazz.

Swedish Jazz History is a quite unique record series that in 10 volumes presents a comprehensive anthology of Swedish jazz music during the period 1899 to 1970. The series is produced by the “jazz archaeologists” Jan Bruér and Bengt Nyquist, who compiled the music, did the background research, and composed the liner notes that presents some in depth interviews with some of the musicians that were active during this period. The musical material comes from a variety of sources; both from published and previously unpublished recordings, radio programmes and private recordings. The series is produced with research contributions from the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation and production subsidy from the Swedish Council for Cultural Affairs
