Arne Domnérus Septet

 In Concert

In the autumn of 1996 the legendary septet of Arne Domnérus reassembled, after 25 years, to play music by Jan Johansson, Bengt Hallberg and Georg Riedel.

Trumpeter Bosse Broberg, tenor saxophonist and flute player Lennart Åbeerg, pianist Bengt Hallberg, guitarist Rune Gustafsson, bass player Georg Riedel, drummer Egil Johansen and Arne Domnérus (Dompan) on the alto sax and clarinet played to big audiences in the principal towns and cities of central and southern Sweden.

The unique and magnificent thing about the septet which Domnérus headed in 1970 became clearer than ever when the group reassembled for a tour in 1996. The combination of instruments made possible an unusually versatile sound for such a small group – a potential ingeniously utilized by the composers. In addition to works by Johansson, Riedel and Hallberg, the group also plays jazz arrangements of Russian and Swedish folk tunes, including a “Hallbergian” version of the well-known Visa från Utanmyra.
