Allan Pettersson/Seven Sonatas for Two Violins

Josef Grünfarb & Karl-Ove Mannberg

Caprice Records presents, in the Caprice Composer Series, 7 Sonatas for 2 Violins, composed by Allan Pettersson in 1951.

For Allan Pettersson his studies in Paris 1951–53 meant not least an enlarged outlook after Sweden’s comparative isolation from international musical life during the war years and the 1940s. In particular he has stressed how his study of Arnold Schönberg’s serial technique during his time with Leibowitz strengthened and inspired him. On the other hand, his stay in Paris seems to have had little effect on his musical idiom as such; as regards expression, articulation and technique his development followed a curve unique in its consistency. Perhaps this can be explained by the fact that his personality as a composer had, in all essentials, attained a fundamental stability. The sonatas are played by Josef Grünfarb and Karl-Ove Mannberg, violin.
