Gunnar de Frumerie

Variations and Fugue for Piano and Orchestra

Caprice Records presents, in the Composer Series, three works by Swedish composer Gunnar de Frumerie; Variations and Fugue for Piano and Orchestra (1932), Concerto for French horn and Orchestra (1971-1972) and Musica per Nove (1976).

Stylistically, Gunnar de Frumerie is considered one of the Swedish neo classicists together with Lars-Erik Larsson and Dag Wirén. There is, however, also a strong romantic touch in his music. On this recording from 1990 we listen to The Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Yuri Ahronowitch and Stig Westerberg. Soloist in the piano variations is Laszlo Simon and in the French Horn Concerto Ib Lanzky-Otto.
