Fredrik Ljungkvist

The Jazz in Sweden artist 2004 plays the saxophone. For the recording included in the prize Fredrik Ljungkvist expanded his trio Yun Kan 3, Mattias Welin, double bass, and Jon Fält, drums, to Yun Kan 5 with extra members Klas Nevrin piano, and Per-Åke Holmlander, tuba.

Fredrik Ljungkvist has written ten tunes for the CD “Yun Kan 12345”, which in his own words are “music in equilibrium between freedom and conformity”. On the one side composed music has its defined home, and on the other there is growth of free expression.

The prestigious annual Jazz in Sweden award been in existence since 1972.
