Way out
Magnus Lindgren
This is the 1999 Jazz in Sweden award, Way out. Magnus Lindgren was born in 1974 and grew up in the town of Västerås. At the age of eighteen he moved to Stockholm to study at the Royal College of Music. Since then he has developed a strong profile as one of the most all round and talents among the younger jazz musicians of Sweden.
In addition to his own projects Magnus Lindgren has taken part in several of Sweden’s foremost jazz orchestras and groups under the leadership of such internationally renowned musicians as Herbie Hancock, Maria Schneider, Jim McNeely and many others. The press has acclaimed him as the great promise of Swedish jazz and he has been awarded many scholarships.
Lindgren combines a very individual musical approach with a thorough knowledge and feeling for the jazz tradition from Duke Ellington to the most recent sounds. The members of his octet who can be heard on this Caprice CD, are Mathias Algotsson piano, Fredrik Jonsson bass, and Jonas Holgersson drums, and a brass quartet consisting of trumpeters Patrik Skoghand and Magnus Thorell, trombonist Karin Hammar and French horn player Magnus Petersson.
