On Purpose

Fredrik Nordström

The Jazz in Sweden cd, 2002 was On purpose with saxophonist/composer Fredrik Nordström. Born in Sandviken, where he also grew up, he has lived in Stockholm since 1995. He composes and plays saxophone, almost entirely jazz music.

Four other exciting musicians are present on the cd: Magnus Broo, trumpet; Mattias Ståhl, vibraphone; Filip Augustson, bass and Fredrik Rundqvist, drums.

Fredrik says this about his music: “Improvisation and group-interaction are the primary factors. Form is important, whether it is free or structured. I’m constantly searching for new sounds – sounds that are up to date. To try and describe the music it would be: Jazz of today where you may occasinally hear elements of modern classical music and rock”.

The prestigious prize Jazz in Sweden was awarded since the beginning of the 1970s to an artist or group by Caprice Records and Rikskonserter with the help of a jury of experts.
