The nyckelharpa (keyed fiddle/key harp) has been played in Sweden since sometime around the Middle Ages. During the folk music vogue of the 1970s, it gained more practitioners than ever, and spread from its traditional stronghold in the province of Uppland, out across the country and further to other countries.

In the 21st century, the nyckelharpa is a given within the Swedish folk music scene, which it was not when this album came out for the first time.
The motto of this edition is, writes Jan Ling, “History can not be repeated. But it can be our teacher, inspiration, and a means of revitalization.”
