Music from Uganda 2

Modern Traditional

Music from Uganda 2 presents the “new” music, in which the traditional forms have been developed and popularized.

Folk music cannot stand still – nor can the listeners! The center here is the rhythm of a band of about fifteen “thumb pianos” or mbiras, and close-knit choral singing. Not forgetting African “gospel”, to the accompaniment of local stringed instruments! Or a one-man band, using a guitar technique in a class of its own and strings made from the unraveled wires of bicycle brakes. Or a genuine “Party Band”, playing dance music on “modernized” harps, plus a one-stringed fiddle and roof-raising sing-along!
