Music from Honduras 1

Music from La Mosquitia

The music of Honduras is largely unknown outside the area. It has been influenced to a great extent by centuries of  Spanish dominance.

Today there are only small minorities left of the Indian cultures in the country. A number of groups, above all from the inaccessible area called La Mosquitia, have been recorded on this CD.

This is traditional music, but there is also dance music from one of the mountain towns with the Indian minority tribe the Lencas and also many examples of the rich local amateur musical life of the country’s Spanish speaking majority.
