Music from Macedonia 2

Various Artists

CD no. 2 featuring music from Macedonia, one of Europe’s most intresting countries regarding folk music traditions. Here we get to meet one of Macedonia’s most popular groups, Synthesis, in the vanguard for modernized folk music, and Kitka, one of the many local groups that fondly cherish tradition.

Goran Alachki, perhaps the foremost accordionist in the country, is featured, as is one of the many fantastic wind orchestras from the town Strumica, Orkestar Ace, which plays at weddings and other festivities in the Romany tradition. Marija Kostova is a prize-winning singer in the tradition of the Vlachs, one of the country’s cultural minority groups, and Xan Strájani represents the largest ethnic group, the Albanians.

One of the country’s best-known figures in traditional music, Stojanche Kostovski makes flutes and bagpipes and demonstrates that he is also one of the foremost to play them.
