Josefine Cronholm & Ibis

Jazz in Sweden prize winner 2003, Josefine Cronholm, comes from Småland in southern Sweden. Since the middle of 1990’s she lives in Copenhagen where her Swedish-Danish group IBIS is also based. IBIS includes Flemming Agerskov trumpet, electronics, Henrik Sundh piano, rohdes, Thommy Andersson double bass and Lisbeth Diers drums and percussion.

Josefine has also worked together with percussionist Marilyn Mazur, the group String Swing and the English pianist Django Bates, all of them international names that represent a broad musical perspective.

Josefine Cronholm says that she makes “simple” music, tunes that are not built around lots of chords, but are allowed to grow slowly from a “core” of equal parts of space and notes; the music is just as much moods as melodies, pictures rather than stories. Thus she is a well-merited artist with total control of her creative expression. Josefine and her group IBIS present an exceptionally tasteful playing style, with plenty of room for reflection and a broad spectrum of feelings—it is all quite beautiful.
