Ett drömspel/A Dream Play

Ingvar Lidholm

The operatic version of A Dream Play has been widely acclaimed by reviewers. Ingvar Lidholm based his libretto and music on the drama by August Strindberg. He began working on the libretto already in 1979, but the première of the opera did not come until 13 years later.

Soloists include Håkan Hagegård as the officer and Hillevi Martinpelto as the daughter of the god Indra. Other members of the cast include: Ingrid Tobiasson, Sten Wahlund, Curt Appelgren, Lars Kullenbo, Arild Helleland, Anders Bergström, Staffan Sandlund, Henrik Westberg and Harriet Andersson (spoken part). The 90 players of the Royal Orchestra are conducted by Kjell Ingebretsen. We hear the Royal Opera Chorus and a mixed choir from the Adolf Fredrik Music School.

A Dream Play is issued on two CDs and is accompanied by a 132-page book containing the libretto in Swedish, English and German. The production is a joint venture by the the Royal Opera, Nordiska Musikförlaget, Phono Suecia and the Swedish Music Information Centre.
