Sivan Perwer

Kurdish Poet-Singer

Sivan Perwer is perhaps the best known Kurd poet and singer in Sweden today. Thanks to his powerful voice, the hypnotic rhythm of the music (he plays the Turkish lute, the saz himself) and a charismatic style of performance he has created his fame.

Sivan Perwer sings of love, war, heroism and longing. Today Sweden is one of the countries he can call his home, and he performs on this CD together with other Kurd musicians who live in Sweden.

He was born in Kurdistan in 1955. There was a lot of music in his home – his father was an outstanding flute player and his older brother was a singer. He was himself a protest singer during the ‘70s.

What is important thing to him is that the song contains a message, and that he can be a voice of the Kurd people, his people.

He has made many recordings as well as film and video music. Much of his time is spent traveling around the world spreading knowledge about the Kurds and their music.
