Jord

Väylän virrassa

Jord (Soil) is an exciting folk music group with a unique sound of their own, performing songs and music from Torne River Valley, in the farthest north of Sweden. Torne River Valleyhas a rich heritage of folksongs, and  on this CD the group presents a mixture of their own newly written material and older, traditional songs – much of it in Finnish (as it is spoken in Torne River Valley). Many of the songs are widely spread also in Finland, but in Torne River Valley, they are given their own verision of texts and melodies.

Jord consists of Susanne Rantatalo (song, percussion), Erling Fredriksson (song, doublebass, harp, flute), Jan Johansson (song, accordion, diatonic accordion, double bass), and Gun Olofsson (song, guitar, flute, percussion).

At a recent Göteborg International Book Fair, which had Finland as the theme of the year, Jord performed at the opening party and also presented their new cd at the fair.

Music with its roots in Torne River Valley’s soil is coming southward!
