Jeanette Lindström
Norrbotten Big Band
Frank Sinatra, Kurt Weill, Jeanette Lindström, Kenny, Werner, Tim Hagans, and Norrbottens Chamber Orchestra on one and the same cd. The first two contribute their music or music strongly associated with them; the others play it.
In her own soft, nuanced way, Jeanette Lindström sings well known Sinatra songs such as ”The Lady is a Tramp” and ”The tender trap”, as well as Weill compositions such as ”Speak low” and ”Lost in the Stars”. Sometimes accompanied by Kenny Werner’s piano, other times by a small group of musicians; in some of the songs, she is accompanied by the entire big band and chamber orchestra. And, suddenly, Håkan Broström breaks out with his sax, or Tim Hagans jams on his trumpet. In short, the recording is varied and exciting.
In 1995 Jeanette Lindström won the prestigious prize ”Jazz in Sweden”, which meant a recording with Caprice Records and a tour with the Swedish Concert Institute. She made her cd debut, ”Another Country” with her quintet. Her second cd, ”I Saw You”, was released in 1997. She has sung Carl Michael Bellman at the Nobel banquet, she has sung Allan Petterson’s ”Barefoot Songs”, contemporary music with the Swedish group KammarenslembleN, and children’s songs with Georg Riedel, as well as making concentrated and deep improvisational music with among others the bassist Anders jormin.
Here, we can enjoy the warm voice, lust, inner feeling and outstanding control of her means of expression which have made Jeanette Lindström the favorite singer of many, and an extraordinary jazz artist.
