Swedish Jazz History Vol. 5

Jazzen anfaller/Jazz Attacks, 1943–47

The fifth volume in the Swedish Jazz History series presents the continuing evolution of the Swedish jazz during the last isolated war years and the following period when the borders were opened again and new impulses came pouring into the country.

Featured are, among others: Alice Babs, Thore Ehrling, Emil Irwing, Seymour Österwall, Gösta Törner, Thore Jederby, Lulle Ellboj, Charles Norman, Simon Brehm, Reinhold Svensson, Povel Ramel, and many more of the Swedish jazz musicians of the time. In the booklet one of the rising stars on the Swedish jazz scene, Arne Domnérus, is featured in a penetrating and personal interview about his first years as a musician.

Swedish Jazz History is a unique record series presenting in 10 volumes a comprehensive anthology of Swedish jazz music during the period from 1899 to 1970. The series is produced by the “jazz archaeologists” Jan Bruér and Bengt Nyquist, who compiled the music, did the background research, and composed the liner notes  that presents some in depth interviews with some of the musicians that were active during the period.

The musical material comes from a variety of sources;  both from published and previously unpublished recordings, radio programmes and private recordings. The series is produced with research contributions from the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation and production subsidy from the Swedish Council for Cultural Affairs.
