I Don’t Know Betty… But I Think You Can Dance To It

David Wilczewski

I Don’t Know Betty…But I Think You Can Dance To It..! was the name of a group that toured Sweden’s jazz clubs and made people get up from their seats and out onto the dance floor.

The band, which was formed in 1985 and received its final setup in 1986, was generally called “The Betty Band”. Why did the group become so popular? Was it the West Indian breeze in Kofi Bentsi-Enchill’s bass or the steady beat in the imaginative drumming of André Ferrari. There can be at least three more reasons: In Stefan Blomquist’s keyboards, Ulf Janson’s guitar and of course – last but not least – in David Wilczewski’s saxophones.

Jazz, funk, rock, world music, ballad… The band mixes and improvised with controlled and sustained energy. Many people would probably classify the music as fusion.
