Draupner
Draupner
The young folk music group Draupner from Hälsingland in northern Sweden was formed at the end of 1994. The following year these musicians were winners at the finals of the Musik Direkt National Competition, where they were awarded four out of seven prizes in all.
The trio consists of Henning Andersson fiddle, Görgen Antonsson fiddle and Tomas Lindberg guitar and mandola. Draupner has played abroad on a number of occasions, for instance at the first folk music festival in Greenland, where they represented Sweden. They have also visited the Baltic States, the Åland Islands and Iceland. In 2003 they performed in the U.S. with great success. This is their debut CD.
Besides the trio´s own tunes in traditional style, we hear “evergreens” by legendary Swedish fiddlers like From-Olle, Tulpans Anders, Bryggarn and Hultkläppen, The proud fiddler heritage of Hälsingland is passed on with fervor and energy. Their vigorous ensemble playing gives folk music a new vitality; this is indeed fiddler music for the 21st century.
