Unga spelmän från Värmland
In Värmland, a province on the Norwegian border, numerous young folk musicians have taken an interest in their local traditions. Some search for tunes in the archives, some record older musicians or attend courses. There are many ways of learning and performing the music through the many musical dialects within the province. This record offers a few of the best examples of what is to be heard in Värmland today.
This recording features the following musicians:
Gert (b. 1948) and Anne-Marie Ohlsson from Mölnbacka, at the time two very fiddlers who already taught courses at Ransäter.
Alf Olsson (b. 1954), Svanskog, who is known for composing many of his own tunes.
Mats Edén (b. 1957) from Karlstad, and Leif Olsson (b. 1956) from Arvika, who have learned many tunes from Jösse Härad.
Claes-Göran Hallgren (b. 1959) and Göran Håkansson (b. 1960) both from Sunne, who prefers playing tunes by Olle på Halla.
Lennart Gybrant (b. 1949) from Stockholm/Värmland, who researched the music of eastern Värmland.
Bengt Lindroth (b. 1942) from Munkfors, Bo i Ransätt (b. 1946) from Ransäter, and Måns Grevillius (b. 1946) from Ransäter, who composed many original Värmland tunes and teaching them at different courses.
