Mats Nilsson

He studied ethnology and journalism including aspects of political science and economic history at the University of Gothenburg during the 1970s, receiving his doctoral degree in 1998. During the early 2000s, he was a lecturer in ethnology at Gotland University (now a part of the University of Uppsala) and has been responsible for the course “Dances of Many Cultures” at the Dans och Cirkushögskolan (University of Dance and Circus), Stockholm. Today he works as a senior lecturer in ethnology at the Department of Cultural Sciences, University of Gothenburg, and is Director of Studies in the Musicology department at the same institution. His association with Statens musikverk is through the research project, “Mixa eller maxa” (“Pluralize or Polarize”).
