Naumann: Composer and Conductor is a rich digital compilation album with all the music in Caprice Music’s catalogue featuring Siegfried Naumann (1919-2001), both as musician and composer. Caprice Music is among, if not the, music label that has made the most recordings and releases together with Naumann, and here a wide spectrum of the fascinating musical art scene of the Swedish modernist era is represented. Organ, choir, piano and orchestral timbres, percussion, solo vocals and wind ensembles, set to music by big names such as Edgard Varèse, Sven-David Sandström, Anton Webern, Karl-Erik Welin, Bo Nilsson – and of course the protagonist himself.
It’s not always easy listening – but never boring!
This album is available for streaming and download at most digital stores, such as Spotify, YouTube Music, and Tidal.
It can be said with a fair degree of certainty that few Swedish musical profiles during the 20th century were as influential, yet now as forgotten, as Siegfried Naumann. As a student of greats such as Ildebrando Pizzetti and Wilhelm Furtwängler and later a tireless advocate, interpreter and not least composer of contemporary art music, as well as an enterprising conductor and esteemed professor at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, he helped shape generations of both composers and conductors at the Swedish and international stages. With, among others, his own ensemble Musica Nova, he made many ground-breaking premieres on stage and in front of the microphone. Naumann was praised many times for his work during his career and also took a seat as a member of The Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
