Senses

Elise Einarsdotter Ensemble & Lena Willemark

The sensitive interplay between Lena Willemark’s voice and the saxophone playing of Jonas Knutsson reaches new heights, and Elise’s characteristic, nuanced, and dynamic improvisations are reason enough for the album’s title, Senses.

But it is with Olle Steinholtz’ imaginative bass playing and Marin Löfgren’s technically ingenious drumming, that a wholeness is achieved. Most of the compositions are, as is typical with the ensemble, arranged by Elise. However, there is also material by Lena, Jonas, and Olle. Nordic influences are there, some even anchored in folk tradition. But with this album, the group succeeds in a self-evident way, to blend these elements so that the music is perceived as the group’s own natural idiom.
